Chapter 9: The Sister’s Confession

Megan didn’t look nervous.

That was the most disturbing part.

She walked into Daniel’s home like she belonged there.

Like she hadn’t just walked into the middle of a family collapse.

Claire stared at her.

“You shouldn’t be here.””

Megan smiled.

“You always say that.””

Daniel stepped forward.

“Who are you?””

Megan looked at him.

“I’m Megan.””

She paused.

“Claire’s sister.””

Daniel’s voice was controlled.

“Why did you hide my daughter?””

Megan laughed softly.

“Your daughter?””

The way she said it made everyone uncomfortable.

“She was never supposed to be yours.””

Daniel’s expression changed.

“What does that mean?””

Megan looked at Claire.

“You really didn’t tell him anything?””

Claire looked furious.

“Leave.””

“No.””

Megan walked toward the table.

“You spent years pretending you were the victim.””

Claire shook her head.

“Because I was.””

Megan smiled.

“Were you?””

The room felt like it was holding its breath.

Then Megan began telling the truth.

Years earlier, Claire and Megan had inherited their father’s company.

Megan believed Claire was always the favorite.

The kinder sister.

The one everyone trusted.

So Megan spent years trying to prove Claire wasn’t as perfect as everyone believed.

When Claire couldn’t have children, Megan saw an opportunity.

“She convinced me I could fix everything,” Claire said quietly.

Daniel looked at her.

“What?””

Claire nodded.

“Megan told me she knew someone who could help.””

Megan smiled.

“You were desperate.””

“Yes.””

“And desperate people make mistakes.””

Daniel looked disgusted.

“So you manipulated your own sister?””

Megan shrugged.

“I gave her what she wanted.””

“No.””

Claire looked at her.

“You gave me a nightmare.””

Megan laughed.

“You still got your miracle.””

“No.””

Claire’s voice broke.

“I lost everything.””

For the first time, Megan looked angry.

“You always had everything.””

The jealousy was obvious.

The bitterness.

The years of resentment.

Then Megan turned to Daniel.

“Your wife was never planning to abandon you.””

Daniel looked confused.

“Then why did she say she would?””

“Because I forced her.””

Everyone went silent.

Megan admitted she had threatened Claire.

She threatened to expose everything.

She threatened to ruin Daniel’s life.

She wanted Claire to feel what she had always felt.

Powerless.

But then Megan made one mistake.

She underestimated Sophie.

“I didn’t know the little girl saw me,” Megan said.

I felt a chill.

“You were the woman in the bathroom.””

Megan looked at Sophie.

“Yes.””

Sophie immediately grabbed my hand.

“You scared me.””

Megan looked almost annoyed.

“You should have stayed quiet.””

Daniel stepped forward.

“Enough.””

His voice was different now.

Strong.

“You involved a child.””

Megan smiled.

“And yet the child told the truth.””

Nobody answered.

Because she was right about one thing.

Sophie had exposed everything.

Daniel took out his phone.

“I’m calling the police.””

Megan’s smile disappeared.

“You think this ends with me?””

Daniel stared.

“What?””

Megan leaned closer.

“Ask your wife why she never told you the baby’s father.””

The room froze.

Daniel slowly turned.

“Father?””

Claire looked terrified.

“I can explain.””

Not again.

Not another explanation.

Daniel’s voice was barely a whisper.

“Who is the baby’s father?””

Claire looked at him.

And finally said:

“I don’t know.””

Everyone stared.

“What do you mean you don’t know?””

Claire cried.

“Because the baby wasn’t created the way you think.””

Then she looked at Daniel.

May you like

And said the one thing nobody expected.

“She was created from your own medical sample.””
