Chapter 7: The Fight For Leo
Daniel had never been afraid of losing money.
He had lost millions in business deals.
He had watched companies collapse.
He had stood in rooms full of angry investors.
But nothing compared to the fear he felt when he looked at that picture.
Someone had been watching his son.
Someone had been close enough to take a photograph.
Sarah saw his face.
“What is it?””
Daniel didn’t answer immediately.
He handed her the phone.
The moment she saw the picture, every trace of exhaustion disappeared.
Her motherly instincts took over.
“No.””
Her voice was barely a whisper.
“No, no, no.””
Leo looked between them.
“What’s wrong?””
Daniel immediately turned the phone away.
“Nothing, buddy.””
But Sarah knew.
She knew because she was a mother.
And mothers noticed fear before anyone else.
“Daniel.””
He looked at her.
“We need to leave.””
Sarah nodded.
Richard stepped forward.
“He won’t stop.””
Daniel looked at him.
“Then we make him stop.””
Richard shook his head.
“You don’t understand Victor.””
Daniel’s eyes hardened.
“I understand people who threaten my child.””
For the first time that night, Richard saw something different in Daniel.
Not the businessman.
Not the son who trusted his mother blindly.
A father.
A father who had finally woken up.
They left the venue through a private exit.
No reporters.
No guests.
No explanations.
Just Daniel, Sarah, and Leo walking into the cold night together.
The drive home was quiet.
Leo eventually fell asleep in the back seat.
Daniel watched him through the mirror.
The small boy who had stood on a stage and exposed a truth that grown adults were too afraid to say.
Sarah sat beside him.
“You blame yourself.””
Daniel kept his eyes on the road.
“Yes.””
“You shouldn’t ignore what happened.””
“I know.””
She looked at him.
“But you also shouldn’t let guilt destroy you.””
Daniel laughed softly.
“That’s hard when I’m the reason he suffered.””
Sarah looked out the window.
“You weren’t the only reason.””
“But I believed them.””
“Yes.””
Her honesty hurt.
“But you’re here now.””
Daniel glanced at her.
“I should have been here before.””
Sarah didn’t respond.
Because there was nothing to say.
The past couldn’t be repaired with one apology.
When they arrived at Daniel’s house, something felt wrong.
The front gate was open.
Daniel immediately stopped the car.
Sarah noticed.
“What?””
“I didn’t leave it open.””
He reached for his phone.
“Stay here.””
Sarah grabbed his arm.
“No.””
Daniel looked at her.
“I’m not leaving you and Leo alone.””
They stepped out together.
The house was dark.
Too dark.
Daniel walked toward the door.
It was unlocked.
His heart started racing.
Inside, everything looked normal.
Almost too normal.
Then he saw it.
A letter sitting on the kitchen table.
No name.
No envelope.
Just one sentence written across the front.
“You should have stayed away.””
Sarah moved closer.
Daniel opened it.
Inside was a copy of a document.
His company ownership papers.
But something had changed.
A signature.
A transfer.
Daniel’s face turned pale.
“What?””
Sarah looked.
“What is it?””
Daniel whispered:
“He’s trying to take my company.””
Richard, who had followed them, looked at the papers.
“He already started.””
Daniel looked confused.
“What do you mean?””
Richard pointed to the bottom.
“The transfer was filed three days ago.””
Daniel froze.
Three days.
Before the wedding.
Before the truth came out.
Victor had planned everything.
The wedding.
The exposure.
The distraction.
All of it.
Daniel grabbed his phone and called his lawyer.
No answer.
Again.
Nothing.
Then finally, a message appeared.
From his lawyer.
“I’m sorry, Daniel. I was threatened. They have evidence that could destroy me.””
Daniel stared.
Sarah looked worried.
“What evidence?””
Before he could answer, another message arrived.
This time from Victor.
“You’re finally understanding.””
Daniel typed back.
“What do you want?””
The reply came instantly.
“Your company.””
Another message.
“Your son.””
Daniel’s hands shook.
Sarah saw it.
“What did he say?””
Daniel looked at her.
And this time, he didn’t hide anything.
“He wants Leo.””
Sarah’s face went cold.
“No.””
Daniel stepped closer.
“He’s not getting him.””
The next morning, Daniel walked into court.
Not as a businessman.
Not as a wealthy man.
As a father.
The custody hearing was supposed to be routine.
Until Victor’s attorney walked in with a folder.
Inside were documents accusing Sarah of being unstable.
Accusing Daniel of neglect.
Accusing them both of creating an unsafe environment.
Daniel looked at Victor sitting in the back.
Smiling.
Because this was never about money.
May you like
It was about control.
And Victor had just declared war.
