Chapter 4: The Plan Behind The Perfect Wedding
Daniel didn’t leave the ballroom.
He wanted to.
Every part of him wanted to walk away from the people who had betrayed him.
But Leo was holding his hand.
And Sarah was standing beside him.
For the first time in years, Daniel felt like he needed to listen.
Not react.
Listen.
“What plan?”” Daniel asked.
Sarah looked at Martha.
“She wanted control.””
Martha rolled her eyes.
“This is absurd.””
Sarah continued.
“After Daniel and I divorced, I was supposed to receive part of his company shares for Leo’s future.””
Daniel froze.
He had forgotten.
The agreement.
The one his lawyers prepared.
A trust for Leo.
Sarah pointed at the papers.
“But someone changed the documents.””
Daniel looked at Martha.
“No.””
Sarah nodded.
“Yes.””
Martha’s expression hardened.
“You have no proof.””
Daniel opened the folder.
There were signatures.
Emails.
Copies of documents.
And then he saw it.
A transfer request.
His mother’s name.
His stomach dropped.
“You tried to move Leo’s trust money?””
Martha looked angry now.
“I was managing family assets.””
“No.””
Daniel shook his head.
“You were stealing from my son.””
The crowd reacted.
Elena stepped backward.
Daniel looked at her.
“And you?””
She said nothing.
That silence answered everything.
Sarah looked at Elena.
“You married him because Martha promised you a place in this family.””
Elena’s eyes filled with tears.
“I loved him.””
Daniel looked at her.
“Did you?””
She couldn’t answer.
The woman he planned to spend his life with had stood beside the people who destroyed his relationship with his son.
Leo tugged his father’s sleeve.
“Daddy?””
Daniel looked down.
“Yes, buddy?””
“Are you mad at me?””
The question broke him.
He immediately kneeled.
“No.””
Leo’s eyes filled with tears.
“I thought you didn’t want me.””
Daniel hugged him.
“I wanted you every single day.””
The boy cried into his shoulder.
And for the first time in two years, Daniel held his son.
Not through a phone call.
Not through pictures.
Not through memories.
Actually held him.
Sarah watched quietly.
Then Daniel looked up.
“I’m sorry.””
She looked away.
“You should be.””
He nodded.
“I know.””
No excuses.
No blaming.
Just the truth.
A sudden noise came from the entrance.
A security officer walked in holding a phone.
“Mr. Whitmore?””
Daniel stood.
“What?””
The officer looked uncomfortable.
“There’s someone outside asking to see you.””
“Who?””
The officer glanced at Sarah.
Then at Martha.
“A man named Richard Hayes.””
Elena’s father.
Daniel frowned.
“Why?””
The officer hesitated.
“He said he has information about your mother.””
Martha’s face changed.
For the first time all night, she looked truly afraid.
Daniel noticed.
“Bring him in.””
A few seconds later, an older man entered.
Richard Hayes looked exhausted.
He carried a small box.
He walked straight toward Daniel.
“I’m sorry I’m late.””
Daniel stared.
“Late for what?””
Richard placed the box on the table.
“For telling you the truth.””
He opened it.
Inside were photographs.
Bank records.
And one final document.
Daniel picked it up.
The first sentence made his blood turn cold.
Because it revealed something nobody in that room knew.

Martha had not only hidden Sarah’s letters.
She had been hiding the truth about Leo’s birth.
