Chapter 8: The Last Lie Victoria Told
The police arrived before sunrise.
The lake house became a scene filled with flashing lights, investigators, and unanswered questions.
But one question haunted everyone.
Who was Victoria protecting?
Because after everything they discovered, Clara realized something.
Victoria was cruel.
She was manipulative.
She had hurt Lily.
But she was also afraid.
And afraid people usually feared someone else.
Alexander sat outside the lake house.
He looked exhausted.
Emma sat beside him.
Eight years of silence between them.
Eight years of pain.
“I thought I lost you,” he whispered.
Emma looked down.
“I wanted to come back.””
“Then why didn’t you?””
She swallowed.
“Because the night of the accident, I discovered something.””
Alexander looked at her.
“What?””
“Someone inside your company was stealing money.””
Daniel approached.
“Do you have proof?””
Emma nodded.
“I hid it before the crash.””
Alexander stood.
“Where?””
Emma looked toward the house.
“In the place Victoria never thought to search.””
They returned inside.
Emma led them to an old wooden cabinet.
Behind it was a hidden compartment.
Inside was a small drive.
Daniel connected it to his laptop.
Files appeared.
Financial records.
Transfers.
Names.
Then one name appeared.
Alexander stared.
“No.””
Clara looked.
“Who is it?””
Alexander couldn’t answer.
Daniel did.
“Your brother.””
Silence.
Alexander’s younger brother, Michael Oleso.
The man who had been his business partner for fifteen years.
“He knew about the money?”” Alexander whispered.
“More than that,” Daniel said.
“He knew Emma discovered it.””
Emma nodded.
“Michael found out I had evidence.””
Alexander stepped back.
“But Victoria…”
Daniel looked serious.
“Victoria wasn’t the person who caused the accident.””
Everyone went silent.
“She covered it up afterward.””
The truth was worse.
Victoria hadn’t created the storm.
She had used it.
She had seen an opportunity.
Clara looked at Emma.
“Why didn’t you tell anyone?””
Emma’s eyes filled.
“Because Michael threatened Lily.””
Again.
Lily.
Everyone had used that little girl’s love as a weapon.
Alexander closed his eyes.
“I failed her.””
Emma reached for his hand.
“No.””
“Yes.””
He looked toward Lily.
“I let everyone around me decide what she deserved.””
That afternoon, Michael Oleso was confronted.
He arrived at the mansion confident.
Almost amused.
“You dragged me here for old accusations?””
Daniel placed the evidence on the table.
Michael’s smile disappeared.
Alexander stared.
“Why?””
Michael laughed.
“Because you had everything.””
“You were my brother.””
“And you were always the favorite.””
The same poison.
The same jealousy.
Different person.
Michael admitted everything.
The money.
The accident.
The cover-up.
But there was one problem.
Victoria was still missing.
And Michael knew where she went.
“She’ll never stop,” he said.
Alexander grabbed his arm.
“Where is she?””
Michael looked terrified.
“She’s going after the one thing she thinks can save her.””
“What?””
Michael whispered:
“Lily.””
Everyone froze.
That night, Clara found a note at the front door.
No fingerprints.
No envelope.
Just three words.
*“Bring Emma alone.””*
Emma read it.
Her face went pale.
“She wants me.””
Alexander shook his head.
“No.””
Emma looked at him.
“If I don’t go, she’ll come for Lily.””
Clara stepped forward.
“She expects you to surrender.””
Emma looked at the note.
“Yes.””
Daniel checked the security footage.
Then stopped.
“Wait.””
Everyone gathered around.
On the screen was a figure leaving the note.
But it wasn’t Victoria.
It was someone else.
Someone they thought was helping them.
Clara whispered:
“Who is that?””
Daniel zoomed in.
The person turned slightly.
And everyone recognized the face.
May you like
It was someone inside the investigation.
Someone who knew everything.
