Amused

Chapter 7: The Ghost From the Past

Alexander couldn’t move.

For several seconds, his mind refused to process what his eyes were seeing.

The woman standing beside Victoria looked older.

Tired.

But unmistakably familiar.

“Emma?””

The name escaped his mouth like a prayer.

Clara looked between them.

“Mr. Oleso…”

Alexander walked forward slowly.

“No.””

He shook his head.

“This isn’t possible.””

Emma’s eyes filled with tears.

“Alex.””

The voice broke him.

Because it was the same voice.

The same voice that used to sing in their kitchen.

The same voice that used to whisper goodnight to Lily.

Alexander stumbled backward.

“You’re dead.””

Emma looked down.

“I know.””

Victoria smiled.

A cruel smile.

“Now you understand.””

Daniel immediately stepped forward.

“Everyone stay where they are.””

Victoria laughed.

“You still think you’re in control?””

“No,” Daniel said.

“But you’re making mistakes.””

Victoria’s expression darkened.

Emma looked terrified.

“Victoria, stop this.””

Victoria turned toward her.

“You don’t get to tell me what to do.””

Alexander stared.

“You knew she was alive?””

Victoria looked at him.

“Yes.””

The answer was so casual it felt like a punch.

“For years?””

“Yes.””

Alexander’s face collapsed.

“Why?””

Victoria walked down the stairs slowly.

“Because Emma had something I wanted.””

“What?””

“Your attention.””

The room went silent.

Victoria’s anger finally spilled out.

“You loved her.””

Alexander stared.

“She was your wife.””

“And I was always second.””

Clara couldn’t believe what she was hearing.

Victoria wasn’t just greedy.

She was obsessed.

She had built an entire life around a jealousy that never disappeared.

Emma stepped forward.

“Victoria, this has gone too far.””

Victoria laughed.

“Too far?””

She pointed at Alexander.

“He replaced me before I even existed.””

“That’s not true,” Alexander said.

Victoria’s eyes flashed.

“You never looked at me the way you looked at her.””

Emma lowered her head.

“I never wanted this.””

Victoria turned sharply.

“You never want anything, Emma. That’s why people love you.””

The bitterness in her voice was terrifying.

Daniel whispered to Clara.

“She’s unstable.””

Clara nodded.

But there was something else.

Something about Emma.

Something missing.

Alexander looked at her.

“Why didn’t you come back?””

Emma’s eyes filled.

“Because Victoria threatened Lily.””

Alexander froze.

“She told me if I returned, she would make sure Lily disappeared.””

Victoria didn’t deny it.

Instead, she smiled.

“She was easy to control.””

Alexander looked disgusted.

“You used my daughter?””

“I protected myself.””

“You hurt a child.””

Victoria’s expression hardened.

“I gave her food.””

Clara stepped forward.

“You forced her to eat from a pet bowl.””

Victoria looked at her.

“And now you think you’re a hero?””

Clara didn’t move.

“I think children deserve kindness.””

For the first time, Victoria looked uncertain.

Because Clara had something she didn’t.

A clear conscience.

Emma walked toward Alexander.

“I tried to find a way back.””

“You were alive all this time?””

“I was hiding.””

“Where?””

Emma looked down.

“Victoria knew people who could make problems disappear.””

Daniel immediately reacted.

“That’s important.””

Victoria turned.

“Don’t.””

But Daniel was already recording.

“You just admitted involvement.””

Victoria’s face changed.

She realized too late.

Alexander looked at Emma.

“Why now?””

Emma hesitated.

“Because Lily was in danger.””

A noise came from the hallway.

Everyone turned.

A small figure appeared.

Lily.

“Mommy?””

Emma broke down.

She ran toward her daughter.

Lily stood frozen.

She remembered her mother.

But she was also afraid.

Then slowly, she stepped forward.

Emma hugged her.

And Lily cried.

Not the silent crying she had learned.

Real crying.

The kind that comes when someone finally feels safe.

But Victoria wasn’t watching them.

She was watching the window.

Then she smiled.

A strange, terrifying smile.

Daniel noticed.

“What did you do?””

Victoria looked at him.

“Nothing.””

The lights suddenly went out.

A loud crash came from outside.

When the emergency lights turned on, Victoria was gone.

Again.

But this time, she left something behind.

A piece of paper.

Clara picked it up.

May you like

Only one sentence was written.

*“You still don’t know who really killed Emma Oleso.””*
