Chapter 6: The Woman Who Disappeared

Alexander Oleso had built an empire by making impossible decisions.

He had walked into boardrooms filled with people twice his age and convinced them to follow him.

He had survived lawsuits, competitors, and financial disasters.

But standing in his mansion’s dark hallway, staring at the message on the abandoned phone, he felt completely powerless.

Because this wasn’t a business problem.

This was his daughter.

“Daddy…”

Lily’s voice came from behind him.

Alexander turned.

The sight of his eight-year-old daughter standing there broke something inside him.

She looked small.

Too small.

A child who had spent months carrying fear that no child should ever know.

He immediately walked toward her.

“Lily, listen to me.””

She looked up.

“Is Mrs. Hale coming back?””

Alexander swallowed.

“I don’t know.””

The honesty frightened her.

Clara stepped forward.

“Mr. Oleso, you can’t go alone.””

Alexander looked at her.

“She has Lily.””

“No,” Clara said firmly.

“She wants you to think that.””

Daniel Cross picked up the phone from the floor using a handkerchief.

“She planned this.””

He examined the screen.

“The message was sent from this phone, but the device was abandoned here intentionally.””

Alexander frowned.

“Meaning?””

“Meaning she wanted us to find it.””

Daniel looked toward the empty driveway.

“She wanted a reaction.””

A cold silence filled the room.

Victoria had always controlled the situation.

Every conversation.

Every lie.

Every person around her.

And now, even after running away, she was still pulling strings.

Alexander looked at Daniel.

“Can you track her?””

Daniel shook his head.

“Not yet.””

“What do you mean, not yet?””

“She covered her trail.””

Alexander’s jaw tightened.

“My daughter is missing, and you’re telling me we have to wait?””

Daniel didn’t react.

“I’m telling you that rushing in blind is exactly what she wants.””

Clara watched Alexander.

She saw the guilt in his eyes.

The guilt of a father who realized he had been absent while his child suffered.

“I should have known,” he whispered.

Clara softened.

“Mr. Oleso…”

“No.””

He looked at Lily.

“I should have seen it.””

Lily walked closer.

“Daddy, it’s not your fault.””

Alexander froze.

Those words came from a child who had every reason to be angry.

Instead, she was comforting him.

He knelt down.

“I’m sorry I wasn’t there.””

Lily hugged him.

And for the first time since Clara arrived at the mansion, she saw Alexander cry.

Not quietly.

Not politely.

Like a man who had finally realized what he almost lost.

An hour later, Daniel discovered something.

The phone had a hidden file.

A video.

They gathered around the screen.

Victoria appeared.

Her hair was messy.

Her expensive clothes were gone.

She looked nothing like the confident woman who had ruled the mansion.

But her eyes were the same.

Cold.

Calculated.

“Alexander,” she said into the camera.

“If you’re watching this, then you’ve already started asking questions.””

Alexander’s hands curled into fists.

Victoria continued.

“You think I ruined your life.””

A bitter smile crossed her face.

“But you don’t know the truth.””

Clara exchanged a glance with Daniel.

Victoria leaned closer to the camera.

“Emma wasn’t the innocent person you remember.””

Alexander stepped back.

“No…”

Victoria continued.

“She betrayed you.””

The video ended.

Silence.

Lily looked confused.

“Is Mommy bad?””

Alexander immediately turned.

“No.””

His voice was firm.

“Your mother loved you.””

But even he looked uncertain.

Because Victoria knew exactly where to attack.

She wasn’t just trying to escape.

She was trying to rewrite history.

Daniel replayed the video.

“Look at the background.””

Clara leaned closer.

Behind Victoria was a wall.

A painting.

A small wooden shelf.

Then Clara noticed something.

“There.””

Daniel paused.

“What?””

“That painting.””

Alexander looked.

His face changed.

“I know that place.””

“Where?””

Alexander stared at the screen.

“My old lake house.””

Daniel nodded.

“Then we know where she is.””

They prepared to leave immediately.

But before Alexander walked out, Clara stopped him.

“Mr. Oleso.””

He turned.

“What?””

She held up Lily’s notebook.

“There’s something you need to understand.””

Alexander looked at it.

“Your daughter didn’t need a perfect father.””

Clara’s voice softened.

“She needed one who believed her.””

The words hit him harder than any accusation.

He nodded slowly.

“I know.””

Then he looked at Lily.

“I’m going to bring her back.””

Lily grabbed his hand.

“Promise?””

Alexander bent down.

“I promise.””

Thirty minutes later, they reached the lake house.

The old building stood alone among the trees.

No lights.

No movement.

Only wind moving through the empty branches.

Alexander stepped toward the door.

Daniel raised a hand.

“Wait.””

Everyone stopped.

The door was already open.

Inside, the lights flickered.

On the floor was another envelope.

Alexander picked it up.

His name was written on the front.

In Emma’s handwriting.

His face went pale.

“That’s impossible.””

Clara stared.

“Why?””

“Because this letter…”

He opened it carefully.

“Was written the night my wife died.””

Then a sound came from upstairs.

A child crying.

Alexander ran toward the stairs.

“Lily?””

But the voice that answered was not his daughter’s.

It was Victoria.

“Finally.””

They looked up.

Victoria stood at the top of the staircase.

And beside her was someone nobody expected.

May you like

A woman Alexander had not seen in eight years.

A woman who was supposed to be dead.
