Chapter 8: The Truth Hidden Under My Name
My name stared back at us from the screen.
Olivia Carter.
Not Olivia Whitmore.
Not Adrian’s wife.
Not the woman everyone thought they knew.
Just the name I was born with.
The name I had spent years carrying quietly.
The room felt like it had stopped moving.
“Why is your name there?”” Adrian whispered.
I looked at him.
“I don’t know.””
But the truth was…
I was starting to remember.
Not everything.
Not enough.
Just fragments.
A woman’s voice.
A hospital hallway.
A file with my name on it.
A man telling me to forget.
Lucas moved closer to the laptop.
“This changes everything.””
Adrian looked at him.
“How?””
Lucas pointed at the screen.
“Because whoever created this message wasn’t warning you about Olivia.””
He looked at me.
“They were warning you about what Olivia knows.””
My heart tightened.
“I don’t know anything.””
Lucas studied my face.
“Yes, you do.””
“No.””
I stepped back.
“I would remember.””
Adrian watched me carefully.
And for once, I wasn’t afraid of him.
I was afraid of myself.
Because there was a terrifying possibility.
What if everyone was right?
What if there were parts of my life I had forgotten?
What if my entire relationship with Adrian was built on something I couldn’t even understand?
A loud crash echoed from downstairs again.
The sound of glass breaking.
Someone was inside.
Lucas immediately closed the laptop.
“We leave. Now.””
Nobody argued.
Adrian moved toward me.
“Can you walk?””
The question was simple.
But it meant more than that.
After everything.
After accusing me.
After pushing me away.
He was finally asking if I was okay.
I nodded.
“Yes.””
He hesitated.
Then quietly said:
“I’m sorry.””
I looked at him.
“For what?””
“For making you feel alone.””
The words almost broke me.
Because that was exactly how I had felt.
Alone.
Even when I was standing beside him.
Before I could answer, a shadow moved at the end of the hallway.
Someone was there.
Camille gasped.
Lucas grabbed the nearest object.
“Who’s there?””
No answer.
The lights suddenly came back on.
And the hallway was empty.
But on the floor was something new.
A photograph.
Lucas picked it up.
His face changed.
“What?””
Adrian looked at him.
Lucas handed it over.
The picture showed me.
Three years ago.
Standing outside the hospital.
Holding a baby blanket.
I froze.
“I’ve never seen that.””
Adrian stared at the photo.
“Then why do you have it?””
I couldn’t answer.
Because something about the image felt familiar.
Not the moment.
The feeling.
The blanket.
The rain.
The hospital lights.
Then a memory hit me.
A flash.
A woman lying in a hospital bed.
A baby crying.
My hands shaking.
A voice saying:
“Olivia, you have to leave.””
I grabbed the wall.
Adrian immediately caught me.
“What happened?””
I closed my eyes.
“I remembered something.””
Everyone became silent.
“What?”” Lucas asked.
I opened my eyes slowly.
“There was a hospital.””
Adrian’s grip tightened.
“What hospital?””
“I don’t know.””
“Try.””
I looked at the picture.
“I was there.””
Lucas nodded.
“Keep going.””
“There was a woman.””
My heartbeat increased.
“She was scared.””
“What woman?””
I swallowed.
“Emma.””
The name changed the atmosphere instantly.
Adrian looked at me.
“You remember Emma?””
I shook my head.
“Not clearly.””
“What do you remember?””
I closed my eyes.
“A promise.””
Nobody spoke.
“What promise?”” Adrian asked.
My voice became softer.
“I promised her I would protect someone.””
Adrian went still.
“Who?””
I opened my eyes.
And suddenly, I knew.
The answer came from somewhere deep inside me.
“Her child.””
Nobody moved.
Camille covered her mouth.
Lucas looked shocked.
Adrian stared.
“Emma had a child?””
I nodded slowly.
“I think so.””
The pieces began connecting.
The accident.
The hospital.
The missing memories.
The reason Victor cared about me.
The reason someone wanted me gone.
“Why would I protect her child?”” I whispered.
Then another memory appeared.
A man’s voice.
Cold.
Angry.
Victor.
“She can’t know the truth.””
My blood froze.
“I heard him.””
Everyone looked at me.
“What?””
I looked at Lucas.
“I heard Victor.””
Lucas stepped closer.
“When?””
“After the accident.””
I closed my eyes.
“He was arguing with someone.””
“With who?””
I swallowed.
“With Emma.””
Adrian’s face changed.
“What did they say?””
I tried to remember.
The words were buried.
Hidden.
But one sentence came back.
Clear.
Terrifying.
“Emma said…”
My voice shook.
“She said, ‘If anything happens to me, give the baby to Olivia.’”
The silence that followed was unbearable.
Adrian looked like he couldn’t breathe.
“Olivia…”
I looked at him.
“I don’t know why.””
Lucas did.
His expression turned serious.
“Because Emma trusted you.””
“But why?””
He looked at the photograph again.
“Because you weren’t a stranger.””
I frowned.
“What?””
Lucas opened the folder.
He pulled out another document.
This one was older.
Yellowed.
He placed it on the table.
“Read the names.””
I looked down.
My hands started shaking.
The document was a hospital record.
Three names.
Emma Hale.
Adrian Whitmore.
Olivia Carter.
My stomach dropped.
“No.””
Adrian looked at me.
“What is it?””
I couldn’t speak.
Lucas answered.
“You three were connected before the accident.””
Adrian stared.
“How?””
Lucas pointed at the document.
“Emma and Olivia were sisters.””
The world stopped.
I stared at him.
“No.””
My voice barely existed.
“I don’t have a sister.””
Lucas looked at me sadly.
“You did.””
I felt dizzy.
“No.””
“Olivia.””
“No!””
The denial came out louder.
I stepped back.
“My parents only had me.””
Lucas shook his head.
“Your parents raised you.””
The words made me freeze.
“What does that mean?””
He looked at the document.
“It means they weren’t your biological parents.””
The room went silent.
I felt like the floor disappeared beneath me.
No.
That wasn’t possible.
My whole life.
My childhood.
My memories.
Everything.
A lie?
Adrian looked devastated.
He moved toward me.
“Olivia…”
I pulled away.
Not because I didn’t want him near.
Because I didn’t know who I was anymore.
Lucas continued carefully.
“Emma was your older sister.””
I looked at him.
“Where is she?””
Nobody answered.
I already knew.
“She died?””
Lucas looked away.
“Yes.””
My chest tightened.
The woman in the video.
The woman who loved Adrian.
The woman who trusted me.
My sister.
A person I never knew existed.
Then Camille suddenly spoke.
“She didn’t die.””
Everyone turned.
Her face was pale.
“What did you say?”” Adrian asked.
Camille looked terrified.
“I saw her.””
My heart stopped.
“Where?””
Camille looked toward the dark window.
“At Victor’s private facility.””
Lucas stepped forward.
“You’re lying.””
“I’m not.””
“Camille.””
“I’m not!””
Her voice cracked.
“I saw Emma alive.””
Nobody moved.
Adrian stared.
“When?””
Camille looked at me.
“Two years ago.””
I felt cold.
Two years.
After the accident.
After everyone believed she was dead.
“Why didn’t you tell anyone?””
Camille’s eyes filled with tears.
“Because Victor told me if I spoke…”
She swallowed.
“He would make Olivia disappear too.””
The room went silent.
Then a sound came from outside.
A car door closing.
Someone approaching.
Lucas looked toward the window.
“We have to go.””
Adrian grabbed my hand.
This time, I didn’t pull away.
Not because everything was fixed.
Not because I forgave him.
Because right now, we were standing in the middle of a truth bigger than both of us.
We rushed toward the back door.
But before we could escape, my phone vibrated.
Unknown number.
Again.
I stared at the screen.
A message.
One sentence.
My blood ran cold.
*“Olivia, if you want to know who you really are, come alone.””*
Below it was an address.
And a photo.
A woman sitting in a hospital room.
Older.
Pale.
But alive.
Emma.
My sister.
The woman everyone said was dead.
May you like
And beneath the picture were four words:
*“She’s waiting for you.””*
